We are people who are committed to following the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. Our complete name is College Church of the Nazarene. This local church was founded in 1937 in Nampa to be in relationship to then Northwest Nazarene College which is directly across the street. College Church is not officially part of NNU, but we share common beliefs and heritage. We serve as home church to scores of faculty, staff and students.   Nazarene Logo

Members of College Church have a heart for world evangelism; we are a mission church. We live in a fairly small community, yet we've sent missionaries to the far corners of the world and also to the inner cities of the United States. Over a hundred of us have spent several weeks on work trips to mission fields.

College Church is a remarkable salad bowl of new believers and folks who have been Christians "forever." Two of the distinctives of College Church have always been these: our people truly love and care for one another, and our people have a vast world view. When individuals are in trouble, College Church folks show up with food or whatever assistance is needed, not just for short-term crises but also for long illnesses as well. Most of us have been privileged to both receive from and give help to our church family.

Many of our older members have returned to Nampa after retirement from parts hither-and-yon because of their cherished memories of student days in Nampa at Northwest Nazarene College (now University). Here they have renewed acquaintances with old friends and made new ones. They have found mutual support and an outlet for their undiminished gifts of service, volunteering in various church and community agencies. They are retired, but they still have a heart for ministering to the needs of people in a remarkable variety of ways. Members of our church have begun compassionate and teaching ministries that have outgrown our own borders.

The older generation is heartened that young peope and new believers are finding their place especially in The Gathering and the contemporary worship service. First service folks love the praise teams, casual atmosphere and a variety of musical instruments. Most of the old-timers can tolerate neither the volume nor the tempo of contemporary worship. They rejoice in the evidence that this and other innovations have been means of bringing new people into the body of Christ, but they are glad there are still hymnals and "the old songs" in College Church's classic worship service. Second service is marked by multiple scripture readings, singing of hymns, choir and organ. Both worship services include times of prayer and Biblically based preaching.

Considering the Spiritual heritage of our church, the older generation longs and prays for a genuine moving of the Holy Spirit in our midst. We see the coming together of old and young, educated and uneducated, Anglo and Latino and Korean in College Church as evidence that God is building His Church. This is His church, and we are satisfied to fill our place within it, as the generations combine to fulfill God's plan for College Church.

As Pastor Daryl has urged us all--young and old alike--to look around at "our Jerusalem," we are filled with optism for the future. We see opportunities for serving in ways unimaginable in the past. As volunteers for "Hands of Hope," for example, we have a part in facilitating the spreading of Christian love in tangible ways around the world. But we also want to be available to serve as God's cleansed and empowered instruments in our neighborhoods in Nampa. God is helping us do just that. We’ve been blessed with a vision of doing God’s work in the whole world.
